For initial assessments, it is helpful for only the parent or carer to be present if there is significant anxiety or stress around feeding for the child. This helps for us to understand the situation and meet the child following this with a lower stress session. If you have a GP care plan, to receive the medicare rebate your child must be sighted during the session. Please have current and previous growth measures for your child ready.
No, you can see a dietitian without a referral from a GP or paediatrician privately. You can speak to your GP to see if your child is eligible for a care plan that provides a $61.80 medicare rebate, though this is not essential for booking in.
A session will include me asking information about your family & child's nutrition goals, growth measures (including weights and lengths), feeding history, skills, family preferences and based on all this information a nutrition care plan will developed in collaboration with you. I will also communicate with any other health professionals involved in your child's care if needed (with your consent).
The Children's Dietitian is a registered Medicare provider, if you have received a referral under a care plan from a GP, part of the fee (~$61.80) can be covered by medicare. If you are covered by a high level health fund, rebates may be available, please check with your health insurance provider.
The Children's Dietitian can provide nutrition services to NDIS participants who are plan or self managed. If a participant is managed by the NDIS, we can provide alternative dietetic referral pathways.
An Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) is a title that is regulated by Dietitians Australia, Australia's governing board for dietitians. We can help support your baby, toddler or child with:
Initial Session
An initial session includes a one-on-one appointment with you to complete a nutrition assessment. This involves asking information in relation to your child's day-to-day routine, background and nutrition intake. I will liaise with your child's GP/Paediatricians or other allied health professionals, if needed.

Review Sessions
A review session provides the opportunity to create a nutrition care plan in collaboration. This involves discussing your child's overall goals and tailored strategies to support your child with achieving them. I will provide you with a nutrition care plan, resources and a feeding plan (if appropriate).
